College - Duke '99
An explosive young player with a nose for the basket, Corey Maggette left Duke after his freshman season, and was drafted with the 13th overall selection in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics. Seattle promptly traded his draft rights along with three other players to the Orlando Magic in return for Horace Grant and draft picks. His sensational athletic ability was put on display in the 1999 NCAA Tournament where his solid offensive play helped propel Duke the NCAA Championship Game. Maggette averaged 8.5 ppg and 3.7 rpg coming off the bench for the Blue Devils in the NCAA Tournament, sparking the Duke offense every time he touched the ball. During his lone collegiate campaign, he was named to the ACC All-Rookie team and All-ACC Tournament second team, averaging 10.6 ppg and 3.9 rpg in the regular season. Maggette was a three-time Parade All-American at Fenwick H.S. (Illinois), and earned four letters in basketball and two in track. As a senior at Fenwick, Maggette was named the MVP of the Wendy's Classic after pouring in 35 points and grabbing 18 boards.
